“It’s the eyes” is the response to this painting. John has an incredible way of capturing so much in the expression through the eyes.
“A mother’s strength is unbreakable and often what a mother has to go through, and yet somehow survive, is beyond understanding.
This painting was inspired by a photograph of a Northern Ethiopian mother and her child.
The need to paint her story grew the more that I read about current events in Northern Ethiopia. The background was deliberately left out to focus on the Mother and child which adds another layer of intensity.”
